WE’VE ADDED A NEW TEAM MEMBER – STARBUCKS!

As part of our ongoing commitment to mobilizing, supporting and engaging volunteers to bring positive change to our community, Volunteer Houston is thrilled to be collaborating with Starbucks Coffee Company this Fall.

Starbucks Coffee Company is collaborating with Volunteer Houston as a part of their 2012 Global Leadership Conference, held in Houston this October, which will in part focus on Starbucks commitment to helping communities thrive wherever they do business.  Volunteer Houston was selected to develop and convene a collaborative of non-profit organizations to participate in a massive one-day service project at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Volunteer Houston’s partners in this effort are Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County, Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, Museum of Cultural Arts Houston and TWRC Wildlife Center.  Our alliance will result in a service project at the convention center on Oct. 5, 2012 in which:

  • 10,000 personal hygiene kits will be created for the homeless
  • 4,000 senior citizens receiving Meals on Wheels will also be provided with bags of pet food kits for their beloved companions
  • Several historic neighborhoods will benefit from art projects created to support neighborhood revitalization and historic preservation
  • Hundreds of safe enclosures and housing will be built so that injured, ill and orphaned wildlife can safely rehabilitate before released back into their native habitat
Collectively, our work will result in the largest corporate volunteer effort in Houston’s recent history!
